SAJAX
Want to get started with developing AJAX?
Well, I certainly can recommend SAJAX, developed by modernmethod.com, but hey why would you listen to me?

This is what they say themselves:

SAJAX is an open source tool to make programming websites using the Ajax framework — also known as XMLHTTPRequest or remote scripting — as easy as possible. SAJAX makes it easy to call PHP, Perl or Python functions from your web pages via Java-Script without performing a browser refresh. The toolkit does 99% of the work for you so you have no excuse to not use it.

But they are the makers of-course. They probably exaggerated a bit.. Maybe you would listen to the guys from IBM? take a look at their great SAJAX tutorial.

I am currently investigating in getting AJAX support into the Miranet CMS, but I actually don't think there's much urgency to do it.
